Unfortunately, we have to report the cancellation of the Whitewater Ski Mountaineering Festival, which was to be sanctioned as the second stop of the 2022 Canada Cup calendar. Whitewater Ski Resort extends their sincere apologies to the Canadian skimo community, however, short term staffing constraints have left them stretched too thin to handle any events in the coming weeks. They do plan to host us again in 2023, and we are looking forward to it.
In the meantime, don’t despair! SMCC is working hard to reschedule the second stop of the Canada Cup at an alternate event later in February or early March. An official announcement will be made as soon as possible.
Additionally, Skimo Alberta has moved their second Citizen Series race at Mt. Norquay to Feb 5th so that you can still get your racing fix that weekend.
Our other events are proceeding as planned. Look for registration to open for the Steep Dreams Ski Mountaineering Festival at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in the coming week.
This exciting race weekend will not only serve as stop number three of the Canada Cup, but also as North American Championships for 2022. The ISMF will be on hand to oversee the continent’s fastest athletes as they take on world class vertical, individual and teams courses, and all racers are encouraged to toe the line alongside the pros. Recreational courses, “skiduro” timing, relay options, spectator areas and community events will ensure that there is something for everyone.
