Steep Dreams – 2025

Steep Dreams is a three-day celebration of skiing and ski mountaineering at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, BC. Set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Dogtooth Range, this is a highlight of the Canada Cup skimo race circuit. It features Vertical, Individual, and Teams races, plus clinics, and plenty of high-stoke camaraderie. Don’t miss your chance to experience some of the gnarliest terrain in North America!

Event Overview

Friday, March 28

Clinics Clinics & Course Inspection: Morning to early afternoon – Get familiar with the course and sharpen your skills with expert-led clinics covering techniques you’ll need for the races ahead. A guided course inspection will help you dial in your strategy.

Vertical Race: 4:00 PM – An 800m pure ascent challenge, finishing at the Heaven’s Door Yurt with warm clothes and refreshments waiting. Shorter ISMF-standard courses are available for recreational racers.

Saturday, March 29

Individual Race: 9:30 AM – Tackle Kicking Horse’s legendary terrain. This race is part of the North American Championships, drawing some of the fastest racers on the continent. Categories include Masters, Junior, and Recreational divisions. Results will be awarded for:

  • Overall Time: Traditional Skimo race format
  • Cumulative Descent Time: “Skiduro” style, inspired by enduro mountain biking

Awards & Banquet: 6:00 PM Celebrate the day’s achievements with an awards ceremony and banquet—because nobody likes a late-Sunday awards rush.

Sunday, March 30

Teams Race: 9:00 AM – The only teams race in Canada, and one of the few in North America! Teams of two will tackle the most epic terrain Kicking Horse has to offer, with challenging ascents, technical descents, and maybe even a rappel or two. Want to switch things up? Compete as a relay team (two teams of two, each covering half the course).

Volunteer Opportunities Get up close with the action! Volunteers are needed all three days and will receive a free lunch and a transferable day ticket as a thank-you. Intermediate or advanced skiing/riding skills required. Interested? Email skimo@skimocanada.org.
