SMCC regrets to announce the cancellation of the 2024 Castle Mountain Ski Mountaineering Races.
Through over a decade of operation, Castle Mountain has been a perennial favourite on the Canada Cup tour. Each year has provided exciting racing in beautiful terrain, often with a healthy dose of southern Alberta weather to keep things interesting! Beloved by athletes, volunteers and the local community alike, we will be sad not to visit this season.
That’s the bad news. The good news is that all eyes will be on Whitewater Resort’s Ymir Climber from February 2nd to 4th, 2024. Look for registration to open soon and if you haven’t already – add this race to your list! A lung-busting Vertical, beautiful Individual utilizing Whitewater’s adjacent backcountry terrain and Olympic format Mixed Relay await!
SMCC is also in talks regarding the inclusion of a make up race later in the season to bring the total of Canada Cup events back to four. We can’t make any promises just yet, but we hope you’ll stay tuned.
We hope to see Castle return to our calendar in future years. We’re immensely grateful to all of the hard working race directors and volunteers who make our sport so special, and we’re thrilled to support anyone looking to bring events to the calendar.
